The aim of this project was to create a Sitter using a flat material with the theme “From the surface into the third dimension”. A preliminary research with 200gr paper on scale, highlighted great characteristics. Paper is a extremely elastic material, that proved to be also very stable despite its thinness, for this reason similar features were desired for the final prototype.
The chosen material is polystyrene 0.75 thick, which has incredible elasticity and does not bend under pressure. This Sitter is made out of 5 identical flat pieces, connected together at the base extremities.
In the upper part remain five free sections, that are folded and interlocked with each other to close the object and creating the sitting surface. The upper part remains under tension and only lowers with the weight of the person sitting on it. Proving its impressive elasticity.
